American Style: Copland, Stephenson & Bernstein Dress Rehearsal
November 2, 2024 · 1:30 p.m.

Join the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra for a working dress rehearsal of the American Style program. We will work to polish each piece, with adjustments to nuance, balance and blend. Many pieces will be played in their entirety, and certain sections will be retouched with starts and stops.

The rehearsal includes an exploration of the American music tradition, featuring Appalachian Spring Suite from the “Dean of American Composers” Aaron Copland. With its open and pioneering depiction of the American idyll, Appalachian Spring is beloved for its folk melodies, including the Shaker tune “Simple Gifts.” The program also features the return of violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen for Leonard Bernstein’s Serenade (after Plato’s Symposium), and contemporary composer Jim Stephenson joins us from the stage to discuss his Second Symphony, “Voices,” written in memory of his mother.

General admission tickets are $10 and may be purchased prior to the day of the event by phone at 850.435.2533, online at PensacolaSymphony.com, or in person at the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra office, 205 East Zaragoza Street. Tickets will be available on the day of the event at the door. Doors will open at 1 p.m.
