Nemorino, a poor peasant, is hopelessly in love with Adina. After hearing Adina read the story of Tristan and Isolde, Nemorino gets the idea that a love potion will be just what he needs to woo her, especially to keep her away from his rival suitor, Sergeant Belcore. When a traveling quack “Doctor” Dulcamara rolls into town, Nemorino falls for his smooth talking and purchases a bottle of “Isolde’s love elixir”—in reality, just a bottle of cheap wine. Nemorino eventually believes the “elixir” is having an effect…not just onAdina, but on every girl in the village!
